How to crush those pesky cravings

Today, we’re going to talk about something that affects EVERYONE…CRAVINGS, and we’re going to reveal 5 of our top tips to combat those pesky cravings.

Cravings…they can be overpowering…they can come out of nowhere…and when they strike, you know as well as we do that they can leave you feeling desperate and out of control. And of course, they can easily derail you from your health and nutrition goals.

Maybe you know what we mean…maybe you’ve felt like the hamster on the wheel chasing cravings…maybe uncontrollable cravings have left you feeling defeated and hopeless.

We thought you might be able to relate. That’s we’re excited to share our top 5 tips for crushing cravings with you today.

#1 – Clean house. Simply put, you can’t eat junk if it’s not there. Clean out your pantry. Take a different route to work. Remove the candy dish from your desk.

#2 – Surround yourself with healthy eaters. They say you’re the average of the five people you spend your most time with. Are you surrounded by people who don’t place the same value on healthy eating habits? Or, do you spend your time with people who make good food choices?

#3 – Watch less TV. Boredom is one of the biggest triggers for cravings, and TV time is associated with eating – and that’s usually junk food. Instead, read a book, call a friend, meditate, take a walk, practice yoga, play with your kids, or organize your closet.

#4 – Practice stress management techniques. Another trigger for cravings is stress and emotional eating. How many times have you been stressed or sad – or even happy – and reached for comfort food? If you’re like me, more times that you can remember. Instead of turning to junk food, practice yoga, meditate, exercise, do some deep breathing, take a walk, and learn to set boundaries (say NO).

#5 – Get enough sleep. Lack of sleep affects hunger hormones and neurotransmitters, ultimately increasing appetite and cravings, particularly for high-carb, high-fat junk food. Of course, most people who aren’t getting enough sleep are also staying up late, and the more time you’re awake, the more food you eat. Plus, late-night eating is rarely healthy.
