We all lead such busy and hectic lives these days. It’s all because our work lives have become a lot more stressful and full of responsibility. As a result, most of us find it very hard to leave all our work worries in the office, which can make it very difficult to switch off and unwind once we get home. Sometimes, we don’t even get home until late in the evening because of certain work commitments. Because of this, it can be very tricky to relax and get our body and mind ready for bed, which can be very disruptive to our sleep patterns. And when we don’t sleep well, we often feel extremely tired and lethargic the following day.
No one wants to feel extremely tired all day at work. But this is something that you won’t be able to escape if you aren’t sleeping well. As you can see, it is incredibly important that you try and sort out your sleep pattern out to make sure you can enjoy days full of energy and vigor. But what about the days when you do feel very lethargic and tired? Thankfully, there are certain things that you can do to get over your feelings of tiredness. Here are some of my top tips to get you over it all.
Watch Your Micronutrients
What we eat has a huge effect on how we feel throughout the day. And it also has an effect on our levels of tiredness and the extent to which we feel it. So what should you be watching out for when it comes to your diet? For tiredness, it all boils down to the macronutrients. These are the fats, carbohydrates, and proteins that you consume in your food. Specifically, you need to concentrate on your fat intake if you are interested in feeling less lethargic all the time. These days, our society is extremely focused on the perfect weight and body. As today’s trend and fashions are for a slim figure, most of us are interested in cutting out the fat from our diet. While this may be good for our weight, it is no good at all for our energy levels. Let me make one thing very clear here; when I talk about fats, I don’t mean fatty food such as McDonald’s meals and deep-fried foods. All of that is extremely unhealthy! I’m on about healthy fats, such as avocados, oily fish, and eggs. You will find that if you eat a lot of healthy fats from nutritious food sources, your body will have a lot more energy throughout the day. This is because the body is better at burning fats compared to proteins. It can burn fats a lot slower than proteins, so their energy is released a lot slower, providing your body with a constant source of energy through the day.
Underlying Health Problems
Are you sure that your tiredness isn’t being caused by an underlying health problem? Quite a few different sorts of illnesses and conditions include fatigue in their list of symptoms. For instance, people who are suffering from heart disease, arthritis, or thyroid disease often feel extremely tired. If you continually feel super tired and are showing some other possible symptoms, you should go to see your doctor to get a checkup. This will then rule out the possibility of an underlying health problem. If your doctor does think that you are suffering from a health condition, they will be able to do further tests to diagnose you. Then they will be able to give you the necessary medication required for you to get better. If they can’t find anything wrong with you, they will be able to at least recommend ways you can combat your constant fatigue. You doctor will also be able to give you lots of tips to help you improve your sleep.
Boost Your Energy Level With Caffeine
We all know just how important it is to drink plenty of water each and every day. There are multiple benefits for this. Firstly, all the fresh water will flush out the toxins that are currently in your body. Secondly, an increased intake of water can help to improve your kidney function. Lots of fresh water can also help to energize your muscles. However, the energy boost that comes with drinking water will only go so far. Thankfully, though, there is something else that you can drink that will give your body a great natural energy boost. And that is coffee! Coffee contains caffeine, which is a natural stimulant. Consuming caffeine will instantly make you feel a lot less tired and improve your energy levels. That’s because caffeine is taken straight to the brain once it is consumed. Once in the brain, it helps the body to block the inhibitory neurotransmitter, Adenosine. This then allows the number of other neurotransmitters sent around the brain to increase, which can help to wake up your mind. So next time you are feeling slightly sleepy, have a cup of black coffee. It’s the best way to consume caffeine without increasing your daily calorie intake!
Help Your Eyes
One big symptom of fatigue that affects quite a lot of people is tired eyes. Tired eyes present themselves with various symptoms. They could dry out, feel very sore, and go quite red as well. The more you feel your tired eyes, the more you may realize that your whole body and mind are tired. So it is a good idea to sort out your eyes as soon as you notice the symptoms. The best way to deal with dry and tired eyes is to replenish the moisture in the skin around them. The number of coconut oil uses are manifold, but one of the best is that this natural oil can really help to refresh your eyes and the skin around them. Rubbing some in gently can greatly help rejuvenate them. If you are home and your eyes start to feel tired, you might find it beneficial to chill out for ten minutes with slices of cucumber over your eyes. Cucumbers contain a lot of healthy nutrients that are needed by the eyes. Simply placing them over your eyes for a few minutes can help the eyes absorb these nutrients and wake up!
Stay Away From Inflammatory Foods
There are certain foods that have an inflammatory effect on the body. What does that mean exactly? Simply put, it means that these foods encourage our body to release infection-fighting cells and molecules. Basically put, it puts our immune system on red alert. This may sound good at first, but it can actually be very unhealthy for us. That is because eating too much of this type of inflammatory food can make our body go into chronic inflammation. And this has some very serious effects. For instance, it increases our chances of developing a few different types of cancers, diabetes, and heart disease. Not only that, though, but it can also increase our chance of developing high blood pressure. And the bad effects don’t stop there. Eating a lot of inflammatory foods all the time can be very bad for our energy levels indeed. You will have no doubt have heard of a ‘sugar coma’, which is what the body goes through after we consume too much sugar. Well, this is a result of eating too much inflammatory food! Because the body has consumed way too much sugary foods, it becomes extremely lethargic. You will, therefore, feel both mentally and physically fatigued. So what foods are inflammatory, then? There are quite a few you should stay away from, including red meat, sugar, and processed and refined foods. To make sure you are always feeling your best and have plenty of energy, you need to make sure you are eating a plant-base diet with lots of healthy fish, lean meat, and pulses.
Change Your Medications
Some types of medication will cause the taker to experience several side effects. Unfortunately, one of the most common side effects that come with pills and tablets is fatigue. Thankfully, the tiredness that comes with taking medication is often only mild, and many people are able to live with it on a day to day basis. However, if you experience lethargy that makes it difficult for you to go about your day to day business, you need to speak to your doctor about it. He may be able to suggest some other options, as there may be some other medication available that doesn’t have fatigue and tiredness as a common side effect. If there is no other medicine available, your doctor may be able to prescribe some other medication that could counteract the fatigue side effects.
Tiredness is not something that you should have to live with on a day to day basis. Even if you are finding it difficult to get a good night’s sleep! As you can see from this blog post, there are plenty of ways you can try and combat fatigue during the day.
